Various Forms Of Curved Stairs and How to Build it?

A well-designed curved staircase offers much more than its functional purpose. Beautiful and complex, curved stairs are considered the pinnacle of stair craftsmanship.

Helical staircases differ from spiral staircases as they do not have a newel, and handrails are present on both sides. They are also not limited to a circular staircase, and may be built in an elliptical or oval shape. Without a newel for support, better materials and/or construction is required for helical stairs compared to spiral stairs.

“Winder” or “curved” stairs refer to stairways that make a turn without including an intermediate landing or platform to provide a flat rectangular turning space.
