For the first time in India, a train will go under a river. A 520 mtrs stretch of the tracks will go through a tunnel under the Hooghly. The roof of the tunnel would be about 30 metres from the ground level. A dream that started in 1984 in Kolkata, India is now becoming the most common and fastest transit methods across the country with 34 Metro Projects being either constructed or planned.
In 2006, the National Urban Transport Policy proposed the construction of a metro rail system in every city with a population of 20 lakhs (2 million). In May 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the Union Urban Development Ministry's proposal to implement metro rail systems in 50 cities. Most the planned projects will be implemented through special purpose vehicles, which will be established as 50:50 joint ventures between the Union and respective State Government.
The Union Government will invest an estimated ₹5 lakh crore (US$74 billion). This Documentary film was made to show how the Kolkata East-West Metro Tunnel of Kolkata Metro (Line 2) is being constructed in a step-by-step manner. It’s a state of the art precision engineering marvel. This film is a property of our client ITD-ITD Cem JV and we are showcasing this film here to present our ability to develop such films.
