Alculate savings from chiller replacement - How to IPLV, NPLV, COP, kW/Ton, EER efficiency
For the simplified method, IPLV was used for determining chiller operating costs by multiplying the IPLV kW/ton value, the chiller plant tonnage, the chiller plant operating hours provided by the load calculation program, and the electrical consumption rate.
Chiller energy consumption can be reduced considerably with a decreasing approach temperature. Lowering the approach temperature can be achieved by reducing the entering condenser water temperature.
Chiller IPLV is the rating based on a loop temperature of 44F. Many chiller manufacturers such as Chiltrix also offer an NPLV rating. NPLV stands for Non-Standard Part Load Value. In addition to IPLV, Chiltrix uses an NPLV rating for loop water temperature of 55F.
How to calculate energy savings from replacing a chiller. In this video we'll be discussing how to calculate the savings from replacing an existing chiller for a newer technology. We'll look at when and why to replace a chiller then run through some worked examples on how to calculate the energy savings from replacing various types of chillers for both full load and variable load chillers using COP, kW/Ton/EER IPLV and NPLV efficiency values as well as historic data and considerations for financial calculations.
