TYPES OF PIPES USED IN BUILDING PLUMBING SYSTEM

The different types of pipes which are used in the distribution of water supply in house are known as service pipes or supply pipes. Different material are use in different pipe construction. So basically we classified the pipes according to their material. 

• Copper pipes 
• Galvanized iron pipes 
• Polythene pipes 
• Lead pipes

COPPER PIPES: 

Copper pipes are most commonly used for hot water supply system. The main features of this pipes are 

• These pipes have a high tensile strength. 
• The copper pipes can be bent easily. 
• They can be used in thin wall. 

Copper pipes are sometimes chromium plated to enhance their appearance.When the ground water is highly corrosive to metals then copper pipes are commonly used.

GALVANIZED IRON PIPES: 

Galvanized pipes are also known as GI pipes are fashioned steel pipes with zinc coating. In the other case galvanized iron pipes are much stronger than copper pipes.

POLYTHENE PIPES: 

Polythene pipes or plastic pipes are used for cold water services. Nowadays, plastic pipes dominate the others by some advantages as follow 

• These pipes Doesn’t corrode. 
• They are cheap in the cost. 
• Having a light weight weight. 
• Ease to install. 
• Resistant to bacterial scale.

LEAD PIPES: 

Lead pipe has high corrosion resistance, flexibility and hydraulic coefficient of flow. But lead content in water may leads to poisoning effects which are harmful for people. So, it is not preferred.
